Moooi was founded in 2001 by world famous designer, Marcel Wanders. The Moooi collection of designer products is what contemporary design is all about. Since its birth, Moooi Lighting has piqued the interest of contemporary design enthusiasts all over the world with its innovation and uniqueness in design. Who is Moooi?
Since April 2001 when Moooi was formed, it inspired and seduced the world with sparkling and innovative designs throughout the global interior industry. The founders, Casper Vissers and Marcel Wanders decided to change the already existing brand from Wanders Wonders into Moooi, (which means beautiful in Dutch, their native language) with one extra ‘o’ because it is extra beautiful. The reinforcing strengths of both men are still sublime; Marcel, the obstinate designer with a keen eye for business and Casper, the marketeer with a keen eye for design.

In addition to the designs of Marcel Wanders, Moooi Lighting also has contracted other designs from world-renowned designers, including Bertjan Pot, Jurgen bey, Ross Lovegrove, Jasper Morrisson, Studio Job and many more. The interior designs are selected by Marcel Wanders himself. The reasons for this diverge considerably… Sometimes an item has super-functionality, sometimes a design is brilliantly creative and sometimes dazzling. But usually, what we prefer is when all of these elements are present at the same time. Moooi lights preserve the balance between unique objects, icons and functional products for everyday use... the silent friends.

We all have the need to feel special, to feel unique and important and to know that our life makes a difference. We are different than others and we want the world to know this. “We are all individuals”. We also feel the need to be connected, to belong to something that is larger than ourselves, to recognize ourselves in others, we want to be part of the team and we want to show this to others. “We are all family”. Apparently these are two contradictory challenges. No one statement being more important than the next but together they make us very happy and it is the responsibility of Moooi to understand both challenges and to produce one answer.

1. Moooi World
   The catalog of Moooi lights 05/06 is offered on E-bay for € 17,50.
   
   The Dear Ingo, part of the Moooi Lighting collection, is now officially part of the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago Museum.
   
   Moooi has sold 2.5 km of branded carpet already.
   
   The Moooi team has grown to 32 people.
   
   In 2007 Moooi sold 2500 Random Lights in Scandinavia only.
   
   The Moooi lights collection receives 2 product proposals a day from external designers.
   
   Moooi Lighting introduced a NO NUDE version of the catalogue 2008.
   
   Christian is the Moooi bowling champion ;-).
   
   Moooi had to divide 16,5 kilo cheese after the Erwin Olaf photo-shoot.
   
   Until today, we have sold over 430 Moooi Horse Lamps.
   
   Marcel Wanders has won a visionary award (being one of the most visionary people of the world) in New York, which was given out by the Museum of Art and Design.
   
   Angelina Jolie / Pierce Brosnan did a photoshoot on the Moooi Smoke Chair.
   
   Moooi’s best seller is still the Random Light Small.
   
   Adding all the miles, Femke already flew around the world more than 4 times.
   
   Moooi lights are sold in every continent of the world.
   
   We have collected more than 1000 different pull rods ready to be sold with the Moooi Bamboo lamp.
   
   Somebody used the Moooi Horse Lamp as a ceiling light.
   
   Moooi Lighting has just opened another monobrand store in Paris with partner ‘Design by’.
   
   There are already 63 Boutique Stores worldwide.
   
   We will have 3 marriages and 5 Moooi babies in 2008!
   
   The Moooi Lighting network recently expanded with an agent in Brazil: Mario Nobre.
   
   Casper and Marcel had their own photoshoot in Vogue Homme Italia.
